Chiropractic Treatment: Slip and Fall Injuries
A slip and fall accident has legal connotations suggesting the incident was due to someone else’s negligence. In a slip and fall incident, the victim will usually sustain injuries upon impacting the ground, or some other fixture involved in the accident. An example of a slip and fall case could include slipping on an improperly marked wet floor. Given the circumstances, the property owner may be considered negligent by not displaying as sign indicating the floor is wet. Or, perhaps a construction crew dug a hole in the sidewalk, then left for the night without marking it. If someone were walking on the sidewalk and fell into the hole by accident, that may be considered a slip and fall case where another party may be held responsible. Whatever the cause of the slip and fall may be, a chiropractor or physical
Strained muscles or tendons are a common type of injury sustained from a slip and fall accident. A strained muscle will usually occur if the muscle is overstretched or torn. When a muscle becomes strained, that muscle can often experience swelling, pain, weakness, bruising and limited range of motion. Some of the most common muscles affected by strains include the lower back, neck, and shoulders.
Chiropractors can treat a myriad of injuries. However, chiropractors are generally known for treating back and neck problems. Chiropractors emphasize the relationship between the spine and the central nervous system – believing that any misalignment in the spine can cause excessive pressure in other regions; inducing pain throughout the body. By realigning the spine through a series of adjustments, patients often experience reduced pressure on their nerves and report reduced pain.
A patient new to the chiropractor may expect to begin with a consultation. The patient will inform the chiropractor of the regions in pain, as well as explain what actions caused the injuries. The chiropractor may then ask questions regarding the patient’s medical history as a means of assessing any pre-existing injuries. Then, the chiropractor may perform a physical examination before developing a treatment plan for the patient.
Once the treatment plan is established, the frequency of visits will vary depending on the specific needs of the patient. Patients of chiropractors often report reduced pain and greater mobility after experiencing treatment. Chiropractic treatment can be very effective in treating slip and fall injuries. If you have sustained an injury as the result of a slip and fall accident, contact a personal injury to discuss your case. If your lawyer does believe you have a case, they may be able to negotiate a settlement to award you compensation for damages and chiropractic costs.
